On Wednesday, Governor Cuomo gave his State of the State address and said New York City should stop the electronic fingerprinting of residents who receive food stamps. He said the system is already demeaning enough for those seeking assistance and the city is the only place in New York that still requires it, but Mayor Bloomberg disagrees, naturally.
The billionaire claims, “There’s no stigma attached to being fingerprinted.” This coming from the same mayor who wants the homeless to prove they’re homeless before entering a shelter and who’s pushing to ban food stamp recipients from buying soda. Bloomberg seemed to suggest that everyone should undergo the process. “We have 230,000 employees in New York City and almost all of them get fingerprinted. Most companies fingerprint in this day and age — at least the smart ones do.” As New York magazine points out, “Bloomberg LP, the mayor’s company, does not fingerprint incoming employees.”

Fuck this guy. Seriously. So glad I'm moving away.
If you're going to hand money to someone shouldn't you know who they are?
guilliani made it safe for the rich to takeover/live in nyc, bloomberg finishes the job by driving out the poor and middle class
Tom, you're right, it should be an honor system where people receiving gov't assistance simply sign an affadavit stating their name before being handed a debit card loaded with hundreds of dollars each month. I mean what could go wrong, no one in NYC would ever lie to get free money right?
Hmm. Chizzuck, as a Republican sounding person, shouldn't you be for smaller government? NYC and Arizona are the only places in the entire U.S. that utilize electronic fingerprinting, as it tends to be a money wasting, bureaucracy growing entity. How is that every state can pull this off, but NYC can't?
