MTA's Got an App for Subway Art That Won't Work in the Subway

There are 186 permanent art works by Vito Acconci, Eric Fischl, Sol LeWitt and the like, installed throughout the subway stations of NY. Starting today, riders can download a special MTA App to school them on the art with descriptions, maps, video and audio pieces about the artists. What a neat idea! Is that a Roy Lichtenstein? Why yes. It’s fine for above ground stations or the few that have been equipped with wireless, but you have to pre-sync before submerging into the underground cell-phone dead-zone, i.e. the subway. Womp. Well, just peep hard, you can always look it up by station later. (Photo: Andrew Smith/Flickr)
