MTV is going old school with “Art Breaks,” broadcast TV spots once featuring downtown artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Commissioned in partnership with MoMA PS1 and Creative Time, it’s bringing back 1985, as a ploy for viewers born way since 1985. Bring it! Meet the new class of emerging artists: This is Rashaad Newsome. Art Breaks are on Tumblr. Ah, youth!
And here’s Mickalene Thomas’ vibrant little vid bit. Klaus Biesenbach (the director of MoMA PS1) says this is good for “a younger generation of artists to experiment beyond the walls of the museum and onto the screens of a broad, international audience.” It’s also good for a younger generation of TV viewers born suckling at the poisonous tit of pseudo-reality television. More, please.
