When the 2012 Olympics were first kicking off, we noticed that NBC mixed up Austria with Australia, but apparently that wasn’t the only geographical gaffe. Check out the network’s profile page for Canada, which all of a sudden is located in the Caribbean according to their description.

Umm, that's not really much of a fail, especially compared with that other one. It really just looks like "North America and Caribbean" is intended to be an inclusive description of the region, as distinct from Central and South America, which is presumably its own region. You know, because the Carribean is generally considered part of North America, even though the islands aren't part of the landmass?
So, not so much?
Yeah, this is dumb. "North America and Caribbean" is a region distinction. It's used for licensing, for business contracts…pretty much for everything. Christ, guys, you're really struggling for content these days. Considering the amount of gaffes and sloppy editing on here, it's kinda silly to reach so hard for something that isn't really even an error. In trying to mock their gaffe, you really just made one of your own. How hard would it have been to look up that IS a region distinction?
Regional or not, Canada is not in the Caribbean or nowhere near it, so of course it’s wrong. You people do realize that the southern border of Canada is the northern United States, which is also no where near the Caribbean, so again, no matter how you slice it, NBC got this wrong.
you stupid fish-head … have you got nothing better to do ? the guide is inelegantly trying to describe a region. did you see the description, about one inch below, in much bigger font, that says:
"Canada extends southward from the north pole to the US border ??"
Its not wrong in the slightest. The region is "North America and Caribbean". That includes all the nations in North America and the Caribbean. Canada is pretty clearly in this region. Examine their page for Jamaica, for example. It is also in "North America and Caribbean", even though it is not simultaneously in both North America and the Caribbean.
Also, FIFA includes the Caribbean islands with all of North America to create the CONCACAF federation. And really, FIFA > IOC, thus the world includes them as part of North America, since technically, THEY ARE! So the author doesn't point out a error on NBC's part, rather just his lack of understanding of geography. If it had only listed Caribbean, this article would actually matter, but instead it's as ridiculous as the Olympics coverage of which it is so critical.
*an error (f minus…but at least i can admit when i made a mistake)
