PollWatchUSA, a new mobile web app from watchdog group Common Cause New York, hopes to “democratize election monitoring” by allowing voters to report problems at their polling places on election day. If you have a smartphone and you’re experiencing problems–long lines, broken voting machines, slow workers–as you vote, simply navigate to pollwatch.us and report them, and observers from Common Cause and other groups will alert the Board of Elections. The app will be rolled out at certain New York City polling places for this Thursday’s primaries and citywide in November. “New York is so huge, it’s impossible to recruit enough volunteers to staff polling places where there might be problems,” said Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause. “This app enables us to crowdsource instead of relying on a limited number of volunteers or a call-in hot line.”
