As part of Museum of Contemporary Art Australia’s Marking Time exhibit, Melbourne artist Stuart Ringholt will be performing his naked gallery tours in late April. For two hours, the artist and tour participants will get up front and full frontal. It’s “Adults only!” and it’s a-ok: Curator Rachel Kent says it “must be” legal and “Sydney loves nude people, if the nude beaches are anything to go by.” Yup, and that Spencer Tunick pile o’ nude was a hit too. So that’s all fine and dandy, but his pitch is off: “The work deals with themes of fear and embarrassment.” If Sydney loves nude people so much, shouldn’t it be “uninhibited, free-swinging glee?”
