Liberal New Yorkers can take solace in the fact that, though their beloved Yankees lost the final game in a 4-0 sweep against the Tigers for the American League pennant last night, Barack Obama will probably be re-elected president in November. According to Yankee tradition, whenever the Bronx Bombers make the playoffs in an election year but fail to capture to championship, Democratic presidential candidates have an outsized advantage in winning the election. Perhaps the fact that the Yankees took so brutal a beating means Obama’s chances will be even better?

And don’t waste any tears on the other guys–Romney and Steinbrenner have enough money between them to throw a billion-dollar pity party. Better luck next year, fellas.
