While the British authorities fiercely are cracking down on dangerous, dangerous street art to clean up for the Olympics, there’s some creative and cheeky retaliation going on. Thirty-five billboards across Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and London have been hacked and subverted into art, via the “Brandalism” campaign. The reclaimed, hijacked billboards feature the artist including Clean Patterson, Paul Insect and Polyp and channel subtle, anti-consumerist imagery. Well, not “Just Loot It!” isn’t exactly subtle per se. Fighting against aggressive advertising with shopping zombies and fighting sport fans. Take that, UK! Lookit yourself. Hijacked billboards! That’s 35 down, 100,000 to go?
