NYPD Deputy Inspector Ed Winski has a rich and well-documented history of using excessive force on civilians, especially during Occupy Wall Street protests, including incidents in which he arrested members of the press for documenting police actions and reached over police barricades to put hands on peaceful protesters. Winski’s disturbing and violent highlight reel, which can be seen above, is not for the faint of heart.

Now, blogger Luis Flores has started a petition on Change.org, calling for Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to fire Winski, and for an “independent investigation of the NYPD.” Winski “engages in use of police force, [and] misuse of authority,” reads the petition, “…not to mention abridgment of the Constitutionally-protected Freedoms of Speech and Assembly, to thwart the lawful political activities of citizens.” Flores’s petition has garnered 311 signatures so far.
