new study from the Journal of Sex Research provides statistical evidence that you need to shh with your rude assumptions about working professionals in the adult industry.

Surveying 177 porn actresses (of 1,200 to 1,500 performers currently employed) at the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation and a comparable sample of women “recruited” from universities and airports, the study shows that everyone had experienced a relatively same rate of sexual abuse as children.

The rate is 36% for women in the porn industry and 29% for the others. Porn stars are just questioned and speculated about more. And yet… A third.

In other statistics, porn actresses have reported having an average of 74 lifetime sexual partners, while the rest averaged at 5. Porn actresses also have more self-esteem than you, due to their intense insular community of friend and fan support.

Now, whether you’re still taken aback by how depressingly high that abuse rate is for everyone or doing a headcount in your head, the point is… everyone has something going on, but not everyone is interrogated about it by Howard Stern. So shh?
