Protester Arrested for Speaking at Grand Central

With the media virtually mum on the frightening provisions included in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act, Occupy Wall Street organized some direct action on Tuesday that included a march as well as a “mic check” at Grand Central Station around 5PM.

Despite the lawful assembly, MTA police quickly moved in and arrested a woman who was leading the crowd in the organized chants, which apparently is illegal now. An OWS supporter said he overheard cops saying, “If she does it one more time [mic checks] go get her.” And so they did, without warning, even though MTA spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said, “It was a peaceful demonstration. It was loud, but it was peaceful.”

Another demonstrator was placed handcuffed and carried out by transit cops. According to the Daily News, there was a total of three arrests. Four others were reportedly given summonses.
