The scheduled “appeal” of the Pussy Riot case has been delayed until October 10th today, after Yekaterina “Katya” Samutsevich fired one of the group’s lawyers, Violetta Volkova, statying “My position in the criminal case does not coincide with their position.”

When ANIMAL interviewed all three lawyers at the NYU Law School last week, they had made clear that this was not an “appeal” in our judicial sense — the girls have already been convicted and are awaiting to be shipped off to separate and severe penal work colonies for two years. Ms. Violetta Volkova also sang Katya’s praises as the “ideologue” and most “punk” member of the group. Sounds legit.

One of the other two defense lawyers, Mr. Polozov, insisted that they’re “not making any attempts to drag out this process because it is pointless… Ten days will make no difference between whether they approve their conviction or change it. So this has no tactical gain.” He also made a point that the lawyers were not allowed to see Katya over the weekend.

Meanwhile, worldwide protest are held today in support of the performance art collective and MEN have dropped yet another celebrity anthem.
