This week, the Moscow courts decided to hold the hardcore Pussy Riot girls in custody for at least another six months. They face seven years in jail for playing a protest song inside a church. Righteously outrage everywhere! Here’s the latest supporter–performance artist Peter Pavlesnkiy–protesting with his mouth sewn shut whilst holding a sign “The action by Pussy Riot was an homage to a famous performance by Jesus Christ.” Clever, clever.

So, is he also going to be charged with blasphemy like the street artist who hacked ads with Pussy Riot “icons,” for making such a statement? Or perhaps for his moment of martyrdom?

Looks like the creative response to Russia’s draconian, theocratic, outdated laws is forming into a cohesive art movement, a boisterous one.
