Around 5:00 PM yesterday, a woman was killed when she was hit by a car as she crossed Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, and it has been reported that the driver was a Secret Service agent. The victim, Maria Tripp, was taken to Interfaith Hospital, where she died, after being hit by a black Chevy Impala, the driver of which remained at the scene of the accident. Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan said, “He was not assigned to a security detail,” Donovan said, though the Secret Service agent was reportedly on duty. It is not yet clear what the agent was doing in New York.
This incident is another black eye on an agency which has been embroiled in scandal as of late, though it would appear the Secret Service officer had the right of way. Said Alan Taylor, the victim’s brother, “She didn’t know which way to move.”
