Even Georgia O’Keeffe can’t pretend these paintings don’t look explicit. Biophysicist and sculptor Mia Brownell‘s series of surreal still lifes are all fruit, meat, bone and pearl beads. See them twisting around each other, dripping water, cherries clogging folds of red flesh, tiny spindles of lard rippling like strings of confetti over suspended slabs and other random bits to make you cringe and blush. Mia is currently an Aldrich Museum’s Radius program’s emerging artist with a Visiting Artist residency at The American Academy in Rome. What are you looking at?
