The trailer never actually says it explicitly, but Beautiful Noise, a forthcoming documentary from director Eric Green, is all about the blown-out, hazy subset of guitar pop we’ve awkwardly come to know as shoegaze. Focusing on three key bands–Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, and the Jesus and Mary Chain–the film seeks to explore “a music movement in the late 20th century, a fascinating period when some innovative musicians mixed guitar noise into conventional pop song structures while maintaining a philosophy of letting the music speak for itself.”

The fact that Green managed to wrangle members of all the aforementioned bands for interviews–including the notoriously reclusive MBV leader Kevin Shields–is reason enough to watch this thing, and the supporting cast is fantastic as well: Trent Reznor! Billy Corgan! Wayne Coyne! Robert Smith!

The documentary is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, and has reached $18,561 of its $75,000 goal at the time of this writing.
