Shoplifter’s Human Hippie Hair Sculptures

02.27.12 Marina Galperina

New York-based artist Shoplifter a.k.a. the Icelandic Hrafnhildur Arnardottir weaves sculptures from human and synthetic hair. Neon fuzz chunks. Hairy typography. A skull sprouting a trollish, spindly tuft. What’s not to love? All inspired by a Victorian memory flower she found at antique shop at seventeen (You saw it on Oddities, admit it), Shoplifter says “hair is the ultimate thread that grows from our body…” Ok, sounds like a mild case of Morgellons, looks great: “Vanity Disorder,” Shoplifter, Feb 17 – Mar 11, Charles Bank Gallery, New York
