It’s time to end this. Forty-three unionized art handlers have been locked out by Sotheby’s since July 29, 2011. Sotheby’s wants to demolish their union, get rid of their healthcare and replace full-time skilled workers with unskilled temps, while business is going better than ever, with profits up 7%. The world’s largest auction house won’t negotiate a fair contract, preferring to stall and hire Jackson Lewis, the notorious law firm AFL-CIO calls the “number one union buster in America.” Don’t stand for this demonstrative, obnoxious exploitation. Ah yes, the hardworking folks of the Teamsters union. I'm sure whatever it is they think people should earn pushing paintings around on dollies is perfectly reasonable (I'm guessing it's close to 100k + benefits). When I worked trade shows in New York in the 80's, they charged $16.00 per folding chair to put it down and $22.00 per chair to pick it back up. That seemed perfectly reasonable.
Have they tried dragging out the giant inflatable rat and annoying the piss out of everyone within 3 blocks with whistles yet?
