According to a recent survey, 57% of white New York City voters are cool with the NYPD’s stop and frisk tactics. White voters, of course, generally have no empiric knowledge of what stop and frisk actually is. Remember, of the 700,000 people who were stopped and frisked last year, almost 87% were black or Hispanic. Quinnipiac University conducted a telephone survey last week of 1,298 New York City voters. Only 25% of black voters polled indicated they approve of stop and frisk, and a completely unbelievable 53% of Latino voters said they approve the practice. Overall, the approval rating for stop and frisk as indicated by this phone survey was 45%. We can do better. (Photo: Rick Brown/Flickr)
