A dolphin that washed up on the beach at Far Rockaway this morning died at the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation on Long Island at around 3:15pm, the New York Times is reporting. The dolphin was first seen at around 9:30am, then moved to a truck and driven to the Riverhead Foundation for examination. According to Riverhead senior biologist Rob DiGiovanni, the rescued animal was either a common or bottlenose dolphin. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
