The Clarion Hotel in Stockholm has just launched a new initiative allowing artists to pay for their room in artworks instead of money, inspired by the Chelsea Hotel’s storied and plundered art collection. “And now that their hotel has closed down, the manager was so inspired that our hotel will continue the tradition,” the marketing department declares.

They’re accepting everything. Good art. “Bad” art. Doodles. Poems. “Who are we to be judgmental about art? Accommodation is what we know and we’re happy to provide it. Everyone is welcome here, from young and upcoming artists to those that are already established.” That’s a [PR] great idea, not so much curatorially. Tourists’ art everywhere!
