The latest research from scientists at Columbia University and NASA confirms common sense and what they’ve observed since NYC’s “Cool Roofs” program began: When you turn a black roof white, it doesn’t get nearly as hot. According to their data, the white rooftop was 43 degrees cooler compared to its surrounding darker counterparts, where the surface temperature typically reached 170 degrees during last summer’s scorchers. This heat helps make NYC feel like a giant sauna rock, even at night. City officials are currently looking for more volunteers, but this seems like the perfect activity to task the city’s vandals with. Shit would be covered in no time. (Photo: 350.org/flickr)

Thanks for posting the white roof info! Two great finds in less than 5 minutes. Stumbled across your page because of the D*face mention and just signed up to be a volunteer for Cool Roofs. This town is so awesome.
