Although Hurricane Sandy isn’t expected to reach the New York City area until tomorrow afternoon, Governor Cuomo shut down the entire MTA at 7PM on Sunday, leading to the closure of the subway system, Metro-North, and the LIRR. To show they mean business and offer a glimpse of what Manhattan would look like should there ever be an epic viral outbreak that kills mostly everyone, the agency took photos which are nothing short of eerie. Behold Grand Central, Penn Station, and Times Square like you’ve never seen before: virtually empty. (Photos: MTA/Flickr)
