Holy shit, don’t tell Susan Burns! A group of red-trouser-only-clad women gathered for a lounge-in at the steps of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Caracas demanding that the FBI return the museum’s Henri Matisse’s Odalisque in Red Trousers (1925), imitating the painting’s subject, in dress and pose.

The  $3 million painting was recovered in Miami beach last month during a sting operation but had not been returned. The museum’s lawyer has been trying hard to arrange its trip back, but has been getting a run-around from the US authorities. There are rumors that it’s a fake, which would be plenty embarrassing for everyone.

Violette Bule, the photographer behind the protest explains: “My main goal is to have the original returned but I also want to call attention to the irony behind the way the art market works. After this scandal, the Odalisque will surely be worth much more.”
