Mexico City-based Walter Shintani brings us this stellar tourist video, which again explores the city through the eyes of a handful of characters. The film is part still slideshow, part moving image, part tourist. For “New York in Five Acts,” Shintani employs the help of the Singer, the Musician, the Poet, and the Wizard to tell the story of the city—though the latter three don’t say much about the city itself, they nonetheless offer some weird and heartwarming perspective. The fifth act is a collage of the opinions of “the Inhabitants” of New York City. When asked how he feels about New York, the last interviewee says simply, “It pays.” All right.
