I hate Times Square. I don’t think that’s an uncommon feeling. It’s crowded and loud and bright and nothing makes me more nostalgic for being underground and away from all those zillions of morons who want their bare shoulders rubbing against strangers’ bare shoulders. Last month, Christian Gaugg visited New York from Austria, and goddammit if his video doesn’t make Times Square look, well, almost elegant. Really. Gaugg calls his film “The Elegance of New York City,” and he shows Times Square, Chinatown, Central Park in a way that almost makes you want to actually go to those places.
