The University of California will pay $30,000 dollars to each of the 21 victims of the infamous and meme-spawning pepper spray incident at a nonviolent Occupy UC Davis protest last November, in a total payout of nearly $1 million. The pepper sprayed students were participating in a nonviolent Occupy protest. Linda Katehi, the chancellor of the university will also be ordered to write individual apologies to each of the victimst. “Since Nov. 18, students have been afraid of the police. The university still needs to work to rebuild students’ trust and this settlement is a step in the right direction,” said Fatima Sbeih, a plaintiff in the lawsuit. In the below video of the November protest, a campus police officer can be seen flagrantly pepper spraying the group of peaceful Occupiers.
