Here’s some silent amateur footage of Manhattan during World War II. Just a stroll through summery Greenwich Village, springtime Coney Island, and fun in a snowstorm. During World War II.
Some quality archivist fodder of NY of yore and a good companion piece to that 1940′s Kodachrome series. Albeit it’s a little awkward, partially because of the war-time context, partially for the jittery frame-rate and partially because of these people’s awkward sauntering to-and-fro. Yes, yes, they “took your picture,” anonymous dead person… It all seems quite familiar, with quite a bit more speedos than your last Coney Island visit.

Looks like the wintertime segment was filmed in the village, too. In the pan up around 8:30, you get a glimpse of the Hotel Albert at 67 University Place which has quite a storied past of its own… (http://thehotelalbert.com/history.html)
