This ingenious visualization captures one full day of New York metro area transit–from the LIRR to the subway to the Staten Island ferry and beyond–from 4PM to 4AM. Very little context is provided by the video’s creators, but I’m assuming each one of those little dots represents a single train/bus/ferry/whatever. It’s unclear what the color-coding is all about, though.
Either way, it’s a beautiful little reminder of how complex our city’s transit infrastructure is. Next time you’re experiencing delays on the way to work, try to imagine all those other little colored dots whizzing by you, and relax.
