Hard to believe that our great city threw considerable weight behind a bid for this year’s Olympics when the International Olympics Committee was accepting pitches back in 2005. Though NYC was eliminated in the first three rounds of serious voting, its campaign would’ve offered stadiums, an aquatic structure in Williamsburg, a velodrome in the Bronx. All these flashy fixtures are buried in dusty proposal books…but some sailed past the failed bid and became actual city improvements, like a revised Olympic stadium that became Citi Field, home of the Mets since 2009.
