Are you still hanging on to your ex-boyfriend’s sweatshirt? What about your favorite CD from junior high? For those among us with crap that we don’t want and don’t use, but that we just can’t throw away, there’s What’s Your Story?, a social experiment by Pratt’s Exhibition Design Intensive graduate students. The project is about preserving the sentimental history of certain objects, while allowing them to be useful for some other person. Participants can donate outgrown shoes and childhood lunchboxes, or swap them for objects they might be able to use. What’s Your Story? records the object’s story on their website, and finds it a good home. It’s sort of like a less-spooky Death Bear. The WYS? people will be occupying the Pratt pop-up container at the Dekalb Market until May 5, so maybe it’s time to get rid of that Third Eye Blind record.
