If you’re like me, every summer when the heat rises up to bring the city to its knees, you probably wonder why the hell doesn’t the MTA just air condition a few subway stations. Not even all of them. Just a few. Five would be nice. But it’ll never happen. “Unfortunately, air conditioning of subway stations is not feasible due to the open nature of their construction and the impossibility of cooling an infinite space,” says MTA Spokeswoman Marjorie Anders. Maybe they could vend cooling towels instead? Just an idea.
