9/11 Truther Tags Delacroix’s ‘Liberty’ Painting

February 8, 2013 | Eugene Reznik

Last night just before closing time at the Lens branch of the Louvre Museum, a 28-year-old woman with a “French-sounding name” transformed defaced Eugene Delacroix’s epic 1830 painting Liberty Leading The People. Either an ardent supporter of King Charles X of France, or more likely a 9/11 Truther, the woman scralled “AE911,” shorthand for “Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth,” three inches high along the bottom of the mural-sized work (a popular spot for art attacks).

The tag was done with a felt-tip marker, and restoration experts say it should be easy enough to remove. The woman was detained by security guards immediately, appearing “unstable,” leading prosecutors to request a psychiatric evaluation. Or, maybe, in defense, she just tried to explain to them what Yellowism is, and they didn’t get it.

Update: The tag has been scrubbed off — really didn’t take all that long. Doesn’t seem like anyone managed to snap a photo of it, though.
