There’s a Dizzying, Aerial Photo Collage of NYC at ICP

May 14, 2013 | Julia Dawidowicz

This Friday, some of today’s most exciting photography and video art will be in NYC for the International Center of Photography‘s 2013 Triennial, A Different Kind of OrderThe show will focus on works “created in our current moment of widespread economic, social, and political instability”  and include 28 international artists who “employ photography, film, video, and interactive media. Many of their works reflect the growing importance of new paradigms associated with digital image making and network culture.”

One such work is this intricately layered, pseudo-aerial photo collage of Manhattan, from Japanese photographer Sohei Nishino‘s Diorama Maps Series. Nishino created this whacked-out analog Google Earth-like panorama by photographing various parts of the city from different angles and individually piecing together the hand-developed prints. We can’t wait to be totally disoriented by it when we see it face-to-face. Yes.
