Big Bad Art: House Party Installation Gets Its Own Documentary

September 17, 2013 | Marina Galperina

Last year, artist Andrew Ohanesian built a fully functioning replica of a suburban home inside Pierogi Gallery’s Boiler in Brooklyn. I was there, in a manner of speaking, before the overturning of the bed and ceiling punching and the “Punk Rock for Rich Kids” wall writing, but everyone wilded out. The artist pretended to be mad but he wasn’t mad. It really was a suburban party, a very interesting experiment in relational aesthetics.

Apparently, documentary filmmaker Ben Cannon made a reality television-style, feature length, behind-the-scenes documentary about the project’s execution: “To pull it off, Andrew has to rely on a ragtag crew of artists and builders led by a moody and sarcastic foreman called Bumfight.” Get the tone? Carpentry! Drama! Art! Commentary by “Jon Kessler and an appearance by the FDNY that’s so unbelievable, even Spielberg” something something!

Here’s the Kickstarter. You better not have filmed me doing anything incriminating in the closet, bro.
