Brooklyn Museum’s Upcoming ‘Divine Felines’ Exhibition

July 18, 2013 | Kyle Chayka

Next Thursday the Brooklyn Museum will be opening a brand new exhibition…and luckily it’s all about cats. The upcoming exhibition entitled ‘Divine Felines: Cats of Ancient Egypt’ focuses on the representation of cats in ancient Egypt and aims to highlight the ongoing historical and cultural significance of our relationship with them. Ever since cats were first domesticated in Egypt, they have continued to be a ubiquitous component of Egypt’s overall landscape and now effectively serve as an important historical component in defining the ongoing relationship between humans and domesticated animals.

In addition to the fine collection of historical relics featuring our beloved furry friends is a large gilded Leonine Goddess, which will be on view for the first time since being acquired by the museum sometime in 1937.

Oh, and since this is a “long-term installation” that means you’ll be able to enjoy looking at these all kitties for quite some time.
