Have you checked out the latest version of the American Psychiatric Association‘s manual of mental disorders though? Among the new and exciting ailment classifications, here’s a thing: DSM now classifies “caffeine withdrawal” as an actual mental disorder.
Big news for anyone who can’t stand the very thought waking up without the immediate consuption of their trusty cup of coffee, and anyone who was anxiously looking forward to the disorder being bumped up from its “pending” status last year.
Don’t overreact now. In order to actually experience caffeine withdrawal, you must suffer from “three of five symptoms within 24 hours of stopping or reducing caffeine intake: headache, fatigue or drowsiness, depressed mood or irritability, difficulty concentrating, and flulike symptoms such as nausea or muscle pain.” Egh.
