Introducing the USB Condom

September 13, 2013 | Kyle Chayka

Seeing as privacy is quickly becoming more of a concern in our daily lives, the simple act of charging your phone or any other USB equipped device in a public place now comes along with a set of risks. In a type of attack known as “juice jacking,” malicious parties can siphon data from your device’s USB port as it charges.

However, this type of vulnerability can now be remedied by a the “USB Condom,” a new device from Int3.cc that blocks a USB port’s data pins while leaving its charge pins open, denying any potentially harmful requests.

The devices are sold out for now, but their developers say another shipment will be in later this month.
