The EU’s New Underwater Exploration Bot Is Very Silly Looking

According to its creator at the Tallinn University of Technology, the European Union-funded u-CAT robot is “specifically designed to meet the end-user requirements” for underwater exploration.

“Conventional underwater robots use propellers for locomotion,” Taavi Salumäe adds. “Fin propulsors of u-CAT can drive the robot in all directions without disturbing water and beating up silt from the bottom, which would decrease visibility inside the shipwreck.”

That’s all well and good, but u-CAT also looks like something out of a Pixar film. Yes, it is very silly looking indeed. Watch it in action above.
