Eyebeam Will Show You How to Get Privacy Back From PRISM

August 1, 2013 | Andy Cush

By now, you’re surely aware that your privacy is being eroded upon (and if you weren’t before, yesterday’s XKeyscore leaks were a helpful reminder). Perhaps you’ve vaguely aware of things like Tor and DuckDuckGo, but don’t have a clear, fully-formed idea of how to keep your private things private. Yes, the extent of surveillance by NSA and private companies, online and IRL, is awful and scary, but what exactly are you supposed to do about it?

The good people at Eyebeam want to help. In October, they’ll host PRISM Break Up, a series of workshops, talks and art events designed to “[explore] and [provide] forms of protection from overreaching surveillance.” Workshops will focus on things like using privacy-enabling technologies like the aforementioned Tor and DuckDuckGo, encrypting mobile data, using the Freedom of Information Act, “and generally getting over Google.” This should be interesting.

If you’re interested in contributing, Eyebeam is accepting proposals now.
