Graffiti Increased in Subway Stations in 2012

March 7, 2013 | Samer Kalaf

According to a 2012 survey by the Straphangers Campaign, subway stations’ conditions are pretty much the same or improving since the year before. The survey sampled 251 platforms at 120 stations.

The only factors that got worse were water damage and graffiti, which was found at 27% of examined stations (up 7% from last year). Boo. Water.

But here’s the grossest tidbit of the survey: Subway riders waiting at a subway platform have a one in ten chance of seeing a goddamn rat. Blech.
