A community group called Town Square Inc. has visions of a museum to rival Manhattan’s grandest institutions on the waterfront of Williamsburg or Greenpoint. In their eyes, the Brooklyn Science and Art Museum would “[merge] the abstract pursuit of aesthetics with the concrete study of the natural world,” according to the Brooklyn Paper. ”We want this to be one of the things on the list when you are a visitor to New York City,” said Town Square’s Darrick Borowski of the project, which the group hopes to get moving within the next six years. “We want you to cross the East River to come here.”

There’s no plan yet for budget, funding, or location–the hypothetical museum’s organizers say it’s still an “embryonic idea” –but the community group hopes North Brooklyn’s ever-richer changing population will help make it happen. “There are families moving into North Brooklyn and the demographics are shifting,” Borowski said. “We’ve got a more well-rounded audience now and there is no cultural institution to match that.”
