Help ANIMAL and Stamp Stampede #KillCitizensUnited Tonight

January 18, 2013 | Andy Cush

This evening, ANIMAL is teaming up with advocacy group Stamp Stampede to raise awareness about Citizens United, one of the most obscene Supreme Court rulings ever handed down by old people in robes. We’ll do this by taking a projector-equipped van around the city, putting enormous images like the one above on various buildings and walls.

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commissionpassed in 2010, removed restrictions on independent political donations by corporations, helping to usher in the modern era of super PACs and skyrocketing campaign expenses. Stamp Stampede, created by Ben & Jerry’s cofounder Ben Cohen, stamps messages on our nation’s currency in an effort to bring about a constitutional amendment declaring that money is not free speech and corporations aren’t people.

The action begins at Bowery and Houston at 6pm this evening, and from there, we’ll be roaming all over the city.
