Here’s What the Jewish Chicken-Slaughtering Ritual Kaparos Actually Looks Like

Filmmakers Natasha Masharova and Anatoli Ulyanov created this short documentary about Kaparos, a ritual practiced on the eve of Yom Kippur by some of the city’s Hasidic Jewish population that involves swinging a live chicken around a person’s head, then slaughtering it. What they shot isn’t for the faint of heart–you will see chickens’ throats cut–but does provide an unflinching look at the controversial practice. Watch This Chicken Is Gonna Die above.
