Kill Bill Inspires Name of Terrifying New Wasp Species

March 20, 2013 | Andy Cush

A newly discovered species of wasp that lays its eggs inside other insects, which kill their hosts as they hatch, has been named for an appropriately badass fictional character: Beatrix Kiddo aka The Bride, the protagonist of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. Science Codex points to Kiddo’s mastery of the five point palm exploding heart technique as potential inspiration for Cystomastacoides kiddo‘s name, and Nerdcore references the line in which Bill calls Beatrix a “renegade killer bee.” The deadly wasp is native to Thailand, so we won’t be seeing it around here any time soon, but maybe a massacre at a wedding will send it crusading across the ocean to find and murder its former mentor, or something.
