Mark Zuckerberg <3's Chris Christie

January 25, 2013 | Andy Cush

The latest in a string of unlikely friendships for Chris Christie–Booker, Springsteen, Obama–is none other than Mr. Facebook himself, Mark Zuckerberg. In Zuckerberg’s first step into national politics, he’ll host a fundraiser for the outspoken New Jersey governor in his Palo Alto home next month. Zuckerberg, who recently donated $100 million to Newark public schools, is a fan of Christie’s work on education in the state.

It’s unclear, however, whether this makes Zuckerberg a true, dyed-in-the-wool Republican (he is the boss of a multi-billion-dollar corporation, after all), or if he’s one of the hordes of Democrats and Independents who’ve gotten fond of Christie after his post-Sandy badassery. Let us never forget that this is the man who postponed Halloween.

The Atlantic breaks it down:

Zuckerberg certainly isn’t a card-carrying member of the GOP — he isn’t registered with the party. However, like many Silicon Valley tech dudes who suddenly came into a pile of money and want to run a company without all that government oversight, he probably has lost some of his left-leaning, free-information-for-all tendencies. And Zuckerberg’s relationship with Christie, it seems, doesn’t have a lot to do with any of that. But maybe the meeting of these unlikely admirers will lead Zuckerberg to speak out on politics a bit more.
