As part of Ireland’s annual Belfast Festival at Queen’s acclaimed contemporary artist Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada has created an 11-acre portrait of an anonymous child, utilizing an unused stretch of land adjacent to the event . The piece, entitled Wish was created using a combination of natural materials as well as advanced satellite technology. The work has an accompanying text which reads “A new face for Belfast on the old face of the city. Is this just wishful thinking or a genuine hope for a brighter future for all of us who share this land?”

This massive 11-acre portrait is officially the largest work of it’s kind in the U.K. and the Cuban American artist’s largest work to date. The work can best be observed  either from atop surrounding buildings in the area or more suitably from within any airplane flying in and out of George Best Belfast City Airport.
