Nate “Igor” Smith Got His Kicks on Route 66

October 9, 2013 | Marina Galperina

New York photographer Nate “Igor” Smith of Driven By Boredom has just ended his road trip, most of which he spent traveling along Route 66 with friends, friends who enjoy posing nude next to roadside attractions.

Inspired by Americana photographs of John Margolies, Nate spent 31-days on the road and shot 67 rolls of film. One got got lost. So he has 66 rolls of film WHAT! You’ve been planning this trip for two years, Nate. What did you learn on the road?

“Not sure I learned anything specifically, but it was an amazingly satisfying experience and every single day was completely different from the next,” Nate tells ANIMAL. “I don’t think we get the opportunity often to enjoy driving. It’s always just to get from one place to another as quickly as possible. I hope to spend a lot more time in the future driving all over the US. My next trip is, hopefully, going to be the West Coast, from LA to Vancouver.”

“The crowd-funded self-publishing thing has been so rewarding,” Nate adds. He’s throwing a big Route 66 book release party in Los Angeles this week and a follow up party in New York on the 17th.
