No Charges for Biker Who Punched Through Window in Car Chase

October 3, 2013 | Andy Cush

Allen Edwards, the man who can be seen punching through the back window of an SUV at the end of a motorcycle chase video that went viral earlier this week, will not face charges. Edwards turned himself into police Tuesday, and was promptly arrested on “reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and menacing,” according to the New York Times. However, the district attorney’s office opted not to prosecute, and Edwards was released.

“Prematurely charging individuals with low-level crimes does not further the goals of the investigation and could weaken the cases we expect to bring against the perpetrators of serious crimes,” said Karen Friedman-Agnifiloone, chief of the DA’s trial division, said of the decision.

To hear the Times tell it, Alexian Lien, the SUV driver who ran over several motorcyclists, paralyzing one of them, may not be absolved of responsibility either, depending partially on the timing of the calls his wife made to 911.
