Some possible insight into Kanye West’s claim that his next album will be the Born in the U.S.A. to Yeezus’s Nebraska: In an interview with Elliott Wilson for Life+Times, Q-Tip announced that he and Rick Rubin will be producing it. Tip and Rubin are as responsible as anyone for the warm, sample-based sound associated with “classic” East Coast hip-hop, perhaps the closest rap analog to the back-to-basics rock Bruce Springsteen explored on Born after the dark, unforgiving Nebraska. Fans hoping for the “old” Kanye may be in luck.
Tip doesn’t offer any further details, but West has said the album will drop next summer.
